All the explanations were kept simple but also concrete, so that you can EFFECTIVELY learn how to memorize the fretboard. You are not simply told that: 'It is fundamental to memorize all the notes'... you are learning directly how.

I spent my first 45 minutes and I already learned so much more about my guitar than in the last 2 years.

Very good and clear approach! Everything essential is explained clearly. I thought I had this completely under control myself, but still a few 'aha' moments came up!

I like the way you explain how it all works and connects together.

Why the Fretboard Still Feels Like a Mystery

Every guitarist eventually reaches this point.

You can play songs.
You can play riffs.
You might even sound pretty good.

But deep down, something feels off.

Because you don’t actually understand what you’re playing.

You follow tabs.
You memorize shapes.
You copy what other guitarists do.

But the moment you try to move around the fretboard...

You feel lost.

Maybe you recognize some of these frustrations:
  • The fretboard still feels confusing and hard to navigate
  • You keep playing in the same small area of the neck
  • Nothing in music theory seems to connect on the guitar
  • Improvising feels random instead of intentional
  • You wish you understood guitar on a deeper level
And the advice most guitarists hear doesn’t help.

“Just memorize all the notes.”

Which means months of staring at fretboard diagrams. Hoping it eventually sticks.

But here’s what most guitarists never realize:

The fretboard isn’t random. It’s a connected system.

Once you understand how it works, the entire neck suddenly makes sense.

What Happens When You Actually Understand the Fretboard

When the fretboard finally clicks, guitar feels completely different.

Instead of guessing, you understand where you are.

Instead of memorizing shapes, you understand what you're playing.

Here’s what starts to happen:

  • The fretboard stops feeling confusing and starts feeling like a connected system
  • You can instantly find notes anywhere on the neck
  • You finally understand what you're playing instead of just copying tabs
  • Playing in different keys becomes natural and effortless
  • Improvising feels creative and intentional, not random
  • Music theory suddenly makes sense instead of feeling overwhelming

And the best part?

With the right guidance, you can understand the system behind the fretboard in less than a day.

What You’ll Learn

Master the Notes of the Fretboard is designed to give you all the steps you need to finally understand how the fretboard is connected. After the course, you’ll be able to easily find any note on the neck.

Most guitarists spend years trying to memorize every note. You’ll do it in a day. Because you won’t memorize. Instead, you’ll actually understand how it all fits together.

This is the music theory that will make everything else easier.

Section 1: Individual Strings

This section shows you how all notes relate to each other. Once you see it, it’s actually very simple.

Lessons include:

  • The string names and the relationship between strings
  • How the notes of the A string work
  • How the notes of the low E string work
  • When to use sharps vs flats
  • Challenges to test your skills

Section 2: The Whole Fretboard

Here you’ll learn how to easily find any notes of the whole fretboard. It’s all based on some very simple shapes. Once you see this, you’ll clearly understand how everything is connected.

Lessons include:

  • The two most important strings
  • Simple shapes to find any note on the fretboard
  • Challenges to test your skills

I like the simplicity, yet fundamental nature of the approach. I've known many of the notes, but didn't always do a good job organizing it in my mind. Focusing on the two strings makes this easier. Love the quizzes.

Well-organized, with each lesson building on the previous one, making it easy to follow and digest. The key strength of the course is how it combines theory with practice: after every explanation, you're encouraged to practice what you've just learned.

Frequently asked questions

Who is it for?
Beginner to early intermediate guitarists. It’s made with electric guitar in mind, but it works perfectly fine for acoustic guitar as well. It's for guitarists who are completely new to theory or who already know some basics.
Who is it not for?
Advanced guitarists who are already very comfortable with the notes of the fretboard, and already understand how it’s connected.

Or those who expect to see results without any form of effort. Luckily, I’ve made it very easy. All you have to do is to follow the steps in the course.
What if I already know most of the notes?
It depends on how you’ve learned them. This course focuses on understanding instead of memorization. Because memorization isn’t as useful.

So if you want to understand how the fretboard works, this course is for you. Even if you’ve already memorized most of the notes.
How long is the course?
Short and sweet! Most guitarists spend years feeling confused about this stuff. You’ll understand it way faster than than. Not months. Not weeks. But in less than a day.

That’s what happens when you focus on understanding instead of pure memorization.

This course is designed to be quick and easy. You can take it over a few days. Or sit down with a cup of tea (or sparkling water) and do it all on a quiet Sunday.
How long are the lessons?
The video lessons inside are around 5 minutes long and extremely straight-to-the-point. I personally hate unnecessary long videos. There are also exercises and challenges inside the course. These will make sure you can actually use your new skills.
What if I’m busy?
You get lifetime access so you can learn at your own pace. Pause whenever you need and come back to the course when you have time. The course is also very straight-to-the-point, so you can finish it quickly. Life is short, so no time for fluff!
How is this different from other guitar courses?
The problem with most theory courses is one of these things:
  • They tell you to just memorize it until it sticks
  • They try to teach you advanced concepts you’ll never actually use

Both are really hard. And both takes a long time. But Master the Notes of the Fretboard does something completely different.

It teaches you the underlying logic of the fretboard. Not a list of notes to memorize, but a connected system of simple, repeating shapes that makes the whole neck suddenly make sense.

Unlike other courses, you’ll not just get video lessons. You’ll also get exercises and challenges to actually improve. All you have to do is to follow the steps.
What if I struggle with motivation?
The lessons are short and bite-sized, leaving you with many small wins along the way. It feels less overwhelming this way and it’s also much more enjoyable.
When do I get access to the course?
You get instant access to everything straight after purchase.
Who are you?
If you haven't been following me on my socials, you might ask who I am. My name is Simen Otnes and I’m a guitarist, music producer and graphic designer from Norway. Already when I started playing guitar at the age of 12, I wrote practice journals and obsessed over achieving my guitar goals. I believe there are some skills you need to work harder for (such as technical skills), but sometimes it’s just about knowing the right things, which is crazy to me.

I have played in around 10 different bands in Norway and the UK, played at some of the biggest stages in Norway and I also have a bachelor’s degree in music from LIPA (The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts) which looks good on paper. Hooray. I'm also a professional graphic designer.
