Frequently asked questions
Beginner to early intermediate guitarists. It’s made with electric guitar in mind, but it works perfectly fine for acoustic guitar as well. It's for guitarists who are completely new to theory or who already know some basics.
Advanced guitarists who are already very comfortable with the notes of the fretboard, and already understand how it’s connected.
Or those who expect to see results without any form of effort. Luckily, I’ve made it very easy. All you have to do is to follow the steps in the course.
It depends on how you’ve learned them. This course focuses on understanding instead of memorization. Because memorization isn’t as useful.
So if you want to understand how the fretboard works, this course is for you. Even if you’ve already memorized most of the notes.
Short and sweet! Most guitarists spend years feeling confused about this stuff. You’ll understand it way faster than than. Not months. Not weeks. But in less than a day.
That’s what happens when you focus on understanding instead of pure memorization.
This course is designed to be quick and easy. You can take it over a few days. Or sit down with a cup of tea (or sparkling water) and do it all on a quiet Sunday.
The video lessons inside are around 5 minutes long and extremely straight-to-the-point. I personally hate unnecessary long videos. There are also exercises and challenges inside the course. These will make sure you can actually use your new skills.
You get lifetime access so you can learn at your own pace. Pause whenever you need and come back to the course when you have time. The course is also very straight-to-the-point, so you can finish it quickly. Life is short, so no time for fluff!
The problem with most theory courses is one of these things:
- They tell you to just memorize it until it sticks
- They try to teach you advanced concepts you’ll never actually use
Both are really hard. And both takes a long time. But Master the Notes of the Fretboard does something completely different.
It teaches you the underlying logic of the fretboard. Not a list of notes to memorize, but a connected system of simple, repeating shapes that makes the whole neck suddenly make sense.
Unlike other courses, you’ll not just get video lessons. You’ll also get exercises and challenges to actually improve. All you have to do is to follow the steps.

If you haven't been following me on my socials, you might ask who I am. My name is Simen Otnes and I’m a guitarist, music producer and graphic designer from Norway. Already when I started playing guitar at the age of 12, I wrote practice journals and obsessed over achieving my guitar goals. I believe there are some skills you need to work harder for (such as technical skills), but sometimes it’s just about knowing the right things, which is crazy to me.
I have played in around 10 different bands in Norway and the UK, played at some of the biggest stages in Norway and I also have a bachelor’s degree in music from LIPA (The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts) which looks good on paper. Hooray. I'm also a professional graphic designer.
